    ORPHAN WORKS

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 12, 2008, 12:31 PM
There is some talk from a lot of people about ORPHAN WORKS.

[link] It's pretty much some people talking about artists that cannot be connected to their art, so they want to rip off the art scott free. Now I realize that people don't always get the rights to their art, and you like a doodle and want to strap it to the front of your new "tell all" book. But, since you can't find the artist you want to strap it to your book anyway. NO! It doesn't work that way, but they want it to. And that's pretty much what this is about, any art piece that is posted anywhere will have to be copyrighted if it is not, then it becomes Orphaned art. Orphaned art can be taken by anybody and do anything with it like, make mad cash. Only problem with that is they have no right to do so, in my opinion and those who are stomping the keyboard with anger.

Then there is the problem with those people who are crooked, they remove watermarks and edit images and claim they are "Orphaned". It states within the bill that they have to do a "Reasonable" search for the Artist. That means nothing, really. It's word of mouth and they can edit the material to suit their corrupt needs. So, we are getting the word out. Punch them in the face, burn their cars and riot their homes. Make sure they fear of the evil they pursue.

I know people say not to freak out about it. There are multiple websites about the "Truth" of this situation. But it's hard not to pay attention to when everybody seems to think it's doomsday. This hasn't passed and won't pass for a long while so we don't have to worry really. Plus any work we publicly post becomes protected. It's gotten a lot of attention but Art theft should get a hardcore crack down though.
